About the Journal

Journal of Azzaytuna University (JAZU): Overview

The journal was established on April 14, 2006, by virtue of Decision No. (06) of 2006, issued by the Director of the General administration of Publications, mandating the launch of a biannual peer-reviewed academic journal under the title "Journal of Nasser Al-umamia University". This decision was based on an official letter dated January 25, 2006, from the Secretary of the People’s Committee of Nasser Al-umamia University (formerly).

The first journal's issue was published during the academic year of 2006–2007, with copies distributed to several university libraries. Among the most notable recipients was the University of Jordan Library, which expressed—through an official letter—its interest in subscribing to the journal on a reciprocal exchange basis with its own journal "Dirasat: Human and Social Sciences", a peer-reviewed publication issued by the Deanship of Scientific Research at the University of Jordan.

As part of its ongoing institutional and academic development, the fifth issue of the Journal of Nasser Al-umamia University marked a pivotal moment, followed by a formal name change in accordance with Cabinet Decision No. (168) of 2012, dated on April 9, 2012, which renamed the university from “Nasser Al-umamia University” to “Azzaytuna University”. Consequently, the journal adopted its new title: “Journal of Azzaytuna University (JAZU)”, while maintaining its status as a peer-reviewed scientific journal issued by the Presidency of Azzaytuna University. The journal's periodicity was also updated to quarterly instead of biannual, reflecting a renewed vision and presentation.

The journal is dedicated to publishing original academic research and studies in a variety of fields, most notably in the areas of medical sciences, engineering and applied sciences, and the humanities and social sciences. It accepts submissions in both Arabic and English, and adheres to international standards of scientific peer review, following a double-blind evaluation process managed by a distinguished board of academic experts and scholars at both the national and international levels.

To date, the journal has published (58) issues, representing a distinguished scientific journey that has spanned over twenty years since its founding in 2006. This achievement reflects the journal’s ongoing commitment to advancing scientific research and serving the academic community with seriousness and professionalism.

In alignment with its commitment to the highest standards of academic integrity and its belief in the originality of scholarly content, Azzaytuna University established a Plagiarism Screening Committee, pursuant to University President’s Decision No. (16) of 2024, dated on January 24, 2024. This committee was created as a scientific body responsible for measuring the percentage of textual similarity in scholarly output across the university.

The committee is tasked with conducting preliminary plagiarism screening for all research papers and academic submissions intended for publication in the journal. Its purpose is to ensure the accuracy of similarity assessments and to guarantee that submitted work adheres to the principles of originality, innovation, and freedom from plagiarism or unjustified repetition. This initiative represents a pioneering step at the national level, as the Journal of Azzaytuna University stands out among local scientific journals for integrating this committee into its editorial structure—alongside its editorial and advisory boards—thus reinforcing its unwavering dedication to academic quality control and ethical publishing practices.
